About the Founder
Mark Liu
Mark Liu was born and raised in Taiwan. He came to America to pursue graduate work in the field of Construction Engineering and Management, not knowing that a foreign land would then become his home for 45 some years, where he was married, raised his children, and pursued his career.
His business development, before the age of 50, was primarily in the area of real estate construction/ development and related areas. Gradually, however, he lost his interest in it. Over a period of about 5 years, while struggling searching of a meaningful life, he finally decided to go back to school, this time in a totally different field – Psychology Counseling. Mark received his MA degree in the field of “Couple, Children, and Family Therapy” in psychology during a 3-year period, including one year of internship. He also had two years of post-graduate practice before he became a licensed psychotherapist.
The dramatic shift of career interest from real estate to counseling occurred through a complex set of reasons. The transition was enriching, and fortunately has provided him with abundant experiences as he encountered and integrated crisis and opportunities along the way. Because of these choices, Mark has been rewarded with indescribable sense of fulfillment.
His decision to pursue counseling came later in life, which, paired with his Christian beliefs, gives him the advantage of a more integrative perspective of life development, a different understanding of the identities,” and more opportunities to understand the roots of human beings’ suffering. His perspective is also attained through a constant and re-examination of love, relationships, communication, reconciliation, faith, and the meaning of life.
He has two children who are both grown up. His wife, to whom he was married for 27 years, passed away years ago. The name of the counseling center reflects his deep memory of her, his intimacy with God, and the meaning of his life.
